Our Governor’s Inn was the first built in the historic district of Colonia del Sacramento, located in the Plaza de Armas, D. Manuel Lobo. This Plaza use to be the square of the Fortress of San Gabriel, surrounded by the Main Church, the Government Palace and the Guards Corps. These days, in this square people can appreciate the ruins of the House, seat of the Portuguese Governors. The Nova Colonia do Santíssimo Sacramento was founded in 1680 by Don Manuel Lobo, Governor of Rio de Janeiro, which had been appointed by the Prince Pedro II of Portugal, to create a defense outpost on the nothern coast of the Río de la Plata. It belonged to the Portuguese, Spanish and Brazilian Empire. It was part of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata.
